4 Tips To Becoming a Seller on Amazon

If your e-commerce health and personal care business hasn’t been connecting with customers, maybe you need more of a presence on a larger online sales channel. One of the most recognized of these online marketplaces is Amazon, and you may want to start listing products there first because it is a general marketplace that sees a lot of traffic from around the world.

Anyone can be a seller on Amazon, but not everyone is automatically successful at it. If you think you would like to sell your products on Amazon, here are some tips to help you get started.

1. Choose a Seller Plan When You Decide To Be a Seller on Amazon

One of the first steps in creating your Amazon seller account is to choose from one of three different seller plans. The scale of your business indicates which plan you should choose:

  • If you manufacture your own products and want to sell them to Amazon wholesale, you should choose Amazon Vendor.
  • If you intend to sell on a large scale, more than 40 individual items per month, and can afford a monthly subscription fee of $39.99, you should choose Amazon Professional Seller.
  • If you only intend to operate on a small scale and sell fewer than 40 items per month, you should choose the Amazon Individual Seller plan.

An Amazon Individual Seller plan requires no monthly subscription fee. However, it is not free to operate. You will be charged some fees for each transaction, but these will be automatically deducted from your sales proceeds by Amazon every two weeks.

2. Create Your Seller Profile

One of the first things you should do once your seller account is active is to complete your seller profile. This is where you will inform customers about your policies regarding returns and refunds, but it is also where you will introduce your business and your products to prospective buyers.

3. List Your Products on Amazon

The process of listing your products on Amazon is different depending on whether you are listing a product that is totally new or one that Amazon already lists elsewhere. If you’re selling a completely new product, you’ll have to complete a few extra steps, such as choosing a unique SKU number and bar code to identify and track your product.

You must also create a title, product description, and search terms for your product. These are important steps to marketing your product and helping buyers find it on Amazon. Most of these steps have already been taken care of if you’re selling a product that’s already listed.

4. Ship Products To Be a Seller on Amazon

Once buyers start ordering your products, you need a way to get them out to customers. There are two product fulfillment options available through Amazon:

  • Fulfillment by Amazon: Amazon handles the packaging and shipping of your products, storing them in one of their fulfillment centers. This offers a lot of advantages but requires additional fees.
  • Fulfillment by Merchant: You are responsible for everything involved in shipping each individual order, including packaging, labeling, and maintaining inventory.

This is a simplification of the process to be a seller on Amazon. It can be a lot more complicated, but it doesn’t have to be when you partner with Click Fluency. Find out more about account management and the other services we offer to Amazon sellers.
